The Bull’s Head, located on Bag Lane in Marchington, is going under the hammer at an upcoming Bond Wolfe auction on 16 May with £220,000 set as its guide price.

The pub unexpectedly announced on 27 March 2023 that it would be closing within 24 hours. Eight months before this, the pub had been taken over by new management who redecorated the bar and introduced live music to the venue.

The pub had been popular amongst Marchington locals, who were surprised to receive news of the pub’s closure with a day’s notice.

The pub has since been gutted although the bar layout remains intact. It would be possible for the buyer to restore the venue and reopen it as a pub.

The vacant bar also features four bedrooms and a living room, so could also be converted into a home – if planning permission allows. The pub is located in a conservation area, and previous plans to convert the property into housing have been rejected.

James Mattin, managing director of Bond Wolfe, described the pub as being in a “… great location close to a primary school, a community village shop, a cricket club, an active village hall and a church, as well as several countryside walks.”

The auction will take place at 8.30am on Thursday.
