Staffordshire Police announced on Friday (3 May) that Brian Lines, of Leek, had been found guilty of 29 individual sexual offences which date back to 1970.
The 84-year-old had committed multiple sexual offences between 1970 and 2009. His crimes only came to light in August 2021 when several of Mr Lines’ victims filed reports. Mr Lines was arrested shortly after.
Following these reports and Mr Lines’ arrest, Staffordshire Police’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team launched a widespread investigation into the reports.
A jury at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court found Mr Lines guilty of the following:
- Three counts of rape of a female under 16
- Attempted rape of a female under 16
- Four counts of sexual assault
- Sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15
- 16 counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16
- Assault of a girl under 13 by touching
- Three counts of the rape of a female over 16 years or over
