Staffordshire Police made 110 arrests during their week-long violence, abuse, and intimidation against women and girls (VAIWG) ‘intensification period’ in April.
Between 15 April and 21 April, Staffordshire Police sought to crack down on abusive and intimidating individuals and also provide additional support to victims of gender-based violence.
This campaign resulted in over 100 arrests being made in relation to violence and intimidation. Of the 110 arrested, 10 were charged and 77 were bailed with conditions.
Three Domestic Violence Protection Notices (DVPNs), which give victims emergency protection, were issued. A DVPN allows for police and magistrates’ courts to implement protection measures for victims. The police also made 50 victim referrals to support services.
In addition to visiting abuse victims, Staffordshire Police also held VAIWG-related talks throughout the county. Venues included local supermarkets, education centres, and businesses.
Those who engaged with officers at these talks received wrist panic alarms.
The coordinator of this intensive period, Detective Superintendent Victoria Downing, stated that “…we want to be clear that we’re proactively tackling VAIWG every single day and supporting those affected as much as possible.”
