Amended plans to convert space above Stoke town centre shops have been submitted after original plans were rejected in February.

The applicant, who is known simply as ‘Mr Khan’, had since made corrections to his plans to create 12 self-contained apartments on Church Street.

The original plans, which featured 13 apartments, were rejected by Stoke-on-Trent City Council due to concerns over the ‘cramped’ layout. Lighting levels were also described by the council as being ‘inadequate’.

By removing one of the apartments, Mr Khan has been able to address several of the issues highlighted in the initial rejection. His new plans also feature a communal cinema room.

While the property is located within Stoke conservation area, a heritage statement expressed that there would be no negative impact of the flats being built.

The plans include 11 one-bedroom flats and one two-bedroom flat.
