A school on Rutland Road in Kidsgrove was put into ‘lockdown’ yesterday afternoon (11 June) after ‘people reported hearing gunshots’.

At 3.10pm, Staffordshire Police received reports of ‘suspected gunshots’ being fired in the area. The school was then put into lockdown.

Police carried out enquiries in the area yesterday afternoon and found that an incident happened on Lamb Street around the same time involving three men and a car. This incident produced a ‘loud bang’ noise.

It is believed that three men had been arguing with the driver of a car. The three men later left on foot while the car drove away.

Police found no evidence of any ‘viable firearm’ in the area. No injuries were reported.

The school later released the children.

Today, police have cordoned off an area outside the school. Traffic has been unable to turn onto Ball Haye Street, which has resulted in Stockwell Street being busier than usual.

Staffordshire Police have asked anyone who witnessed anything in relation to the incident yesterday to contact them on 101 and to quote incident 455 of 11 June.

Additionally, police have also asked that anyone with dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage that could help with the investigation to report it immediately.
