The Museum of Cannock Chase was evacuated yesterday (14 June) when a ‘suspicious package’ was discovered at midday. The museum and two nearby houses were evacuated.
The package was assessed by Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) experts. They determined that the package contained commercial explosives, commonly used for industrial purposes.
The package was safely removed and the cordon on the museum and the nearby houses has since been lifted.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police stated: “We’d like to reiterate that we’re not treating the incident as suspicious and there’s no wider threat to the local community”.
They continued: “We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and support while this incident was dealt with.”
