Mark Janke (57), of Cheadle, was sentenced to five years and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life on Tuesday (4 June). He was also given an indefinite restraining order against his victim.
At Stafford Crown Court in January, Janke was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault. He had assaulted his victim inside a Cheadle property while she was asleep.
The victim woke up during the incident, which took place in January 2021, and later reported it to Staffordshire Police.
Janke denied the allegation but was found guilty of the crime in court thanks to evidence gathered by the police.
Detective Sergeant Daniel Martin stated: “We’ve worked hard to support the survivor throughout this investigation and I’m pleased that the outcome has given her some form of closure”.
He continued: “I hope this sends a clear message to any survivors of sexual offences that you will be listened to by officers who are passionate about delivering justice. No matter how recent the offences may have been, we will seek the toughest punishment possible for those guilty of sexual crimes.”
