The Deakin’s Yard student flats, located on Brunswick Street in Newcastle-under-Lyme, will be ready for the next academic year, according to new developers.
Work on this block of student flats – which was originally meant to be titled ‘Sky Building’ – started in 2017, however, money problems forced the project to grind to a halt. Investor disputes then caused further delays, and the half-completed building lay abandoned for several years.
Integritas Property Group (IPG) took over the project at the start of this year and recently submitted plans to add external cladding to the property.
IPG has stated that up to 80 builders are now working on the project daily, and that work is taking place seven days per week. Work is scheduled to be completed by August.
IPG had secured £11 million worth of funding from real estate lenders Brydg.
Once completed, the Deakin’s Yard will feature 273 student flats. Specifically, there will be 122 studios with ensuites, 127 large ensuite studios, 14 accessible rooms, and 10 one-bedroom apartments.
IPG selected the new name for the flats in tribute to Fanny Deakin, a notable female politician from the early 20th century.
