A £1 million proposal to build a new village hall on the site of the former Knutton Recreation Centre has been put on hold following concerns over noise.
Newcastle Borough Council were due to approve the plans on Tuesday (18 June) having already approved plans to build a 54-house estate on the same site.
However, objections were raised by environmental health officers who are concerned about the noise levels of the village hall and how it could impact the residents of the new houses.
The planning committee have since agreed to delay making any more decisions regarding the village hall development until a noise assessment is carried out.
“We’ve had concerns raised by our environmental health officer about noise impact. This site is adjacent to a new housing scheme, which members granted permission to at the last meeting,” stated planning officer Rachel Killeen.
She continued: “The building will be very close to the residential dwellings so we’re requesting that a noise survey be submitted, which will inform the design of the building. We’re asking for the item to be deferred so that the survey can be submitted.”
