A man died yesterday (26 June) afternoon in Fenton’s Smithpool Park following what the ambulance services described as a ‘medical emergency’.

Bystanders went to the individual’s aid and raised the alarm at 5.30pm.

Witnesses reported that an air ambulance touched down in the nearby Meakins Cricket Club pitch.

West Midlands Ambulance Service later confirmed that the man had sadly passed away at the scene.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service stated: “We were called to a medical emergency at Smithpool Park. Two ambulances, a BASICS doctor, and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a man in a critical condition receiving basic life support from bystanders.”

They continued: “Ambulance staff immediately took over to administer advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.”
