Upstairs by Tom Shepherd, located in Lichfield, has been ranked 46th best restaurant in the UK by the National Restaurant Awards.
The restaurant, which can be found on Bore Street, is located above the head chef’s father’s jewellery shop.
Tom Shepherd’s award-winning menu focuses on simplicity, with highlights including seaweed and vin jaune, line-caught pollock with ratte potato, and braised pork belly with celeriac.
The National Restaurant Awards described Shepherd’s restaurant on their website: “The cooking is assured but unfussy, with each dish often comprising only two or three elements.”
They continued: “And as you would expect, the presentation is impeccable, Shepherd instilling each dish with a refined precision that’s reflected in the taste.”
Shepherd learned his kitchen skills while working at a variety of the UK’s top restaurants. This includes Adams in Birmingham and Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham.
The restaurant opened in 2021 and received its first Michelin Star within four months.
