A prison officer at HMP Dovegate, located near Uttoxeter, has been arrested after allegedly committing misconduct.
The arrest of the 49-year-old female prison officer followed an investigation carried out by the Regional Organised Crime Unit for West Midlands.
No further information regarding the incident is currently available. The officer in question was still in custody awaiting questioning as of yesterday (25 July).
HMP Dovegate, which is run by Serco, has a total of 1,060 male inmates, each of which is over the age of 21. It is a Category B facility.
A spokesperson for Serco stated: “Serco is proud of the officers we employ at HMP Dovegate who carry out a challenging role with professionalism and care.”
They continued: “We have a zero tolerance approach to any individuals who fail to meet the standards we expect and on those rare occasions when one of our officers falls short of the required standards, we work closely with the police to investigate the issue fully and when necessary take appropriate action.”
