Staffordshire County Council are now accepting applicants to fill Poet Laureate and Young Poet Laureate positions in Staffordshire.
The Staffordshire Poet Laureate role is open to any experienced poet aged 18 and over. Applicants must either live or work in Staffordshire to be accepted. The successful applicant will hold the position for two years.
The Young Poet Laureate role is open to anyone aged between 14 and 18 who lives in Staffordshire and has an enthusiasm for poetry. This is a one-year role.
The two successful applicants will assume their respective roles on National Poetry Day which falls on Thursday 3 October this year.
Staffordshire’s Assistant Director for Culture Cathrine Mann stated: “We’re now in our 11th year and we’ve had some wonderful poets doing the role, including our current Young Laureate Trinity Davis and Poet Laureate Dawn Jutton, who will continue their role until October.”
She continued: “I would definitely encourage anyone with an interest in poetry to apply. It’s not only a great way to develop a career in poetry but also helps get more people involved.”
Those interested in applying should email connectedlibraries@staffordshire.gov.uk to receive an application pack.
The deadline for entries is Friday 2 August.
