Jozsef Spekker, owner of EasyJetwash, has revealed he’s been accused of infringing trademarks by easyGroup, who own easyJet.
The owner of the Newcastle-under-Lyme-based cleaning business has stated that easyGroup plans to take him to court if he refuses to rebrand.
Spekker stated that the only similarity between his jetwash business and easyJet “is the word Easy”. Spekker uses power washing equipment to clean patios, decking, and driveways.
While Spekker’s business is not similar to any service affiliated with the easyGroup, the brand still believes that the similar name may confuse the consumer.
Spekker registered the trademark in April of 2022, which was accepted and added to the Intellectual Property Office website register.
However, Spekker received a demand letter in December 2023 from the easyGroup that told him to “completely shut down”.
Now, the chairman of easyGroup, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, has stated that the brand would “win in court” if Spekker fails to rebrand.
If Spekker does rebrand, Haji-Ioannou stated that they “might not pursue the legal case to the end”.
The easyGroup has been involved in similar branding disputes over the years. In October 2023, it was revealed that the brand was suing Leicester-based band Easy Life for similar reasons.
