Burntwood home set alight by lightning strike

The Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have stated that a house fire on Thursday (1 August) in Burntwood was caused by a lightning strike. 

Fire crews were called to the scene on Springhill Road shortly after 6.00am. Several crews were dispatched to tackle the blaze. 

Upon arriving, the crews found all occupants of the house outside of the property. Nobody was injured during the fire. 

The Fire and Rescue Service stated: “Multiple crews and the aerial ladder platform (ALP) were dispatched to the scene. No-one was inside the property on arrival. The fire caused damage to a bedroom in the loft space of a semi-detached property. No-one was injured.”

They also confirmed that the fire had been caused by lightning. 

Some neighbours reported that the sound of the lighting had woken them up.
