The family-owned Upper Hurst Farm, located near the Derbyshire Staffordshire border, have been forced to temporarily close following a “devastating barn fire” which occurred on Sunday (30 June).
The fire destroyed the barn and the family holiday cottage. The 100 guests and members of staff who were present at the time of the blaze were unharmed.
Fire crews from both Staffordshire and Derbyshire tackled and safely extinguished the blaze.
The farm offers eco-camping, caravan stays, glamping, and cottage accommodation.
In a social media post, Amy Dillon, a member of the family who runs the site, stated that the fire: “destroyed our biomass boiler, electrics and just about everything we need for our business to operate”.
She also stated that the “fire took hold so quickly that nothing could be done”.
The eco campsite has been forced to temporarily close to allow for repair work to take place. They aim to open as soon as possible but have stated that they’ll contact all existing booking holders directly.
In the Facebook post, Ms Dillon also thanked the fire crews for their help: “Without their hard work and equipment, mum’s house most definitely would have gone up in flames. They prevented that from happening and we are infinitely grateful.”
