Micro-businesses, small rural businesses, and farms in the Lichfield area can now apply to receive part of the £200k funding granted to the Lichfield District Council.
The council secured £200,000 from the Rural England Prosperity Fund, which supports the UK government’s Future Farming Programme.
Specifically, the funding can be used to buy equipment that creates low-carbon and green farming. It can also be put towards farm building conversions, should a business want to convert one of its outhouses to be used for other commercial purposes.
For example, the funding could go towards converting a barn into accommodation or a wedding venue.
To apply for funding, businesses must have legal status and employ less than 50 people. Eligibility also depends on annual turnover. Applications will only be considered for businesses that turnover less than £10.2 million a year.
Private companies, further education institutions, charities, voluntary organisations, and parish councils are all welcome to apply.
The funding is available through the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Business owners can apply for funding on the Lichfield District Council website.
