Staffordshire Police has so far arrested 14 individuals who are believed to have been connected to the disturbances that happened in Stoke-on-Trent and Tamworth at the weekend. All of these arrests were carried out over a 24-hour period.
13 of the arrested are male and aged between 19 and 55. One of the arrested is female and is aged 23. All of the 14 have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
Staffordshire Police’s statement reads: “Proactive teams have been out in Stoke-on-Trent and Tamworth carrying out enforcement as our efforts continue to trawl through all of the evidence we have.”
Special forces have been gathering footage from National Police Air Service (NPAS), body worn cameras, and drone surveillance.
The incidents took place last Saturday (3 August) in Stoke and last Sunday (4 August) in Tamworth. They were sparked after disinformation regarding the stabbing of three girls on 29 July in Southport went viral.
Stuart Ellison, Assistant Chief Constable, stated: “Our dedicated team of detectives are working incredibly hard to action all of the intelligence we have to act robustly against those responsible for the violence we’ve seen in Staffordshire.”
