Longton police station, one of the least popular stations for police officers to work in, in Stoke-on-Trent is set to receive a £3.5 million makeover.
A recent document from Ben Adams, Staffordshire’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, revealed that the station is unpopular amongst officers due to its limited space and lack of investment over the last 30 years.
The renovation will make the station better fit for purpose by extending the floor space by 15%. This will make the facility more comfortable to work in and better for collaboration between officers.
The improvements will also result in the provision of better services for residents. The refurbishment will also benefit the local economy through building work.
The option to demolish the current station and build a new one for £10 million was considered but deemed unnecessary.
The budget for the planned refurbishment was originally set to £4.3 million. However, this was reduced to £3.5 million following discussions with suppliers.
