Staffordshire County Council and Dudley Borough Council announced on Friday (17 May) that South Staffordshire residents will be able to use Dudley Recycling Centre from Friday (24 May).
This comes after Wombourne Recycling Centre’s closure in March over safety concerns. Subsidence was recorded in early March which resulted in the immediate closure of the site.
This closure left many South Staffordshire residents without a local recycling centre.
To rectify this, local authorities have been looking for appropriate replacements. They have now announced that qualifying postcodes will soon be able to use the Dudley Recycling Centre, which is located on Stourbridge’s Birmingham Street.
Qualifying postcodes can apply for 10-minute slots at the Dudley tip online.
Cabinet Member for Environment Simon Tagg stated: “We have worked hard behind the scenes with Dudley Borough Council to find a practical solution for South Staffordshire residents needing somewhere to dispose of their household waste.”
Staffordshire County Council are also looking into ways of partially reopening the Wombourne site.
