Workers at Ideal Standard’s Armitage distribution centre, located in Rugeley, have voted to take strike action following a dispute over pay.
According to the GMB union, 87% of members who work at this distribution centre have voted in favour of the strike. 299 of the factory’s workers are members of the GMB union. 239 took part in the strike vote and 207 voted in favour.
Strike action is being carried out following years of pay cuts. Ideal Standards have stated that they aim to deal with the situation “as swiftly as possible”.
The regional organiser for GMB, Justine Jones, stated: “Every worker deserves decent pay – but years of below-inflation pay have left Ideal Standard’s workers struggling financially, especially as we are still in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis.”
She continued: “We have engaged with the company in good faith, showing clearly what the workers deserve following years of below-par pay increases and the employer needs to take their employees seriously.”
It is unclear when the strike action will take place. However, Ideal Standard has reassured both suppliers and customers that they will do all they can to keep disruption to a minimum.
