Roads to North Staffordshire beauty spot closed until November

Travelling to Knypersley Reservoir between now and November has become a lot more difficult thanks to roadworks taking place on Greenway Bank.

A section of the road that leads towards the two main entrances to the beauty spot, which is located near Biddulph, is now undergoing major improvement works.

Visitors can no longer enter via Judgefield Lane. Instead, they must follow a lengthy diversion through Ball Green via Bemersley Road. This ‘official’ diversion will lead visitors to the site’s two car parks.

Alternatively, motorists can drive along Tongue Lane to reach the spot. However, this road is much more narrow than the official diversion. Pedestrians can still enter the site via the bridge as normal.

Work is currently being carried out on the spillway and wave wall to improve safety. The project is being carried out by the Canal and River Trust.

A spokesperson for the trust stated: “The Canal and River Trust is carrying out essential works at Knypersley Reservoir. We are re-pointing the spillway, which allows the safe release of water, and the wave wall, which prevents erosion.”

They continued: “We’re also improving drainage and completing other repairs to ensure the reservoir’s resilience for the future. Because of the scale and nature of the work, we need to close the road through the site, but we are able to maintain pedestrian access along the crest of the dam.”
