A popular pub and restaurant in Stafford has announced its shock closure on Facebook.
The owners of the Tap Bar & Restaurant, located on Peel Terrace, took to Facebook on Friday (5 June) to announce that the popular eatery would close its doors on Friday 26 July.
Rumours had been circulating in the weeks before the announcement, which the Facebook post acknowledged.
It stated: “After much speculation, we would like to personally let our loyal customers & supporters know that the Tap Bar & Restaurant will be closing its doors on Friday 26th of July.
It has been a very difficult decision & one that we haven’t taken lightly.”
The post also expressed sadness about becoming friends with many customers and the thought of leaving behind the “home & team” they had created.
Most of the comments on the post were from pub regulars who expressed disappointment about the news. One wrote, “Really sorry to hear this, we felt lucky having such a brilliant pub on our doorstep”.
Another wrote: “We’ve enjoyed many a meal here”, while another added, “It’s a great restaurant/pub with fantastic friendly staff”.
The Tap is the latest victim of the mass pub closures occurring across the UK. The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) recently reported that 509 venues closed in 2023.
