New data conducted by High Speed Training has revealed the towns and cities of the West Midlands with the highest and lowest food hygiene ratings, with Newcastle-under-Lyme recognised for having the best food hygiene in the region.
Newcastle received a score of 4.77, which also meant that the town made the national top 10.
High Speed Training ranked Birmingham as having the lowest hygiene rating with a score of 4.08. Despite this ranking, the city has improved since 2023, when its ranking was 4.03.
The other two lowest-rated locations were Walsall and Dudley.
Burton-upon-Trent experienced a more significant increase, going from a score of 0.16 in 2023 to 4.47 in 2024.
Scores were calculated by analysing data provided by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
Overall, 84% of businesses based in the West Midlands had a food hygiene score of 4 or 5. The region received an overall score of 4.42, which placed it 9th out of the 10 regions. The 10th spot was taken by London.
