Plans to revamp Brough Park Leisure Centre in Leek are set to be approved.
Staffordshire Moorland District Council want to extend the leisure centre using money from the local authority’s £17 million Levelling Up fund.
Under the new plans, a 25m six-lane swimming pool will be built, alongside a 25-person dance studio, spin studio, and new changing rooms. The current gym would also be extended.
Additionally, the plans seek to replace one of the centre’s three squash courts to make way for a community wellness suite. This suite will be dedicated to helping disabled and elderly people improve flexibility.
The council’s application has been recommended for approval and councillors are set to meet today (Thursday 18 July) to discuss the proposal.
If approved, two extensions will need to be made to the building – a large extension to the south east and a small extension to the north west.
Concerns have been raised over the length of time it would take to carry out this extension work.
Others have felt that the current plans are too limited and that a sauna, steam room, outdoor gym, and full-sized football pitch should also be included.
