Staffordshire Police have confirmed that a 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the crash that destroyed the former Sneyd Arms pub in Shelton.
Police received a call at 12.30am yesterday (June 13) informing them that a blue BMW had crashed into the derelict pub, located on Shelton New Road. No one was injured in this crash. Police have confirmed that the driver was witnessed leaving the scene.
The building was almost completely demolished in the crash. Caging was put up around the site for safety reasons and a section of Shelton New Road remains closed today (14 June). Diversions through Cemetery Road are currently in place.
The suspect is from Stoke-on-Trent and was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle dangerously, being the driver of a vehicle involved in a road accident and failing to report the accident, and failing to stop after a road accident.
The suspect remains in custody and will be questioned further.
Staffordshire Police are currently appealing for information in relation to the crash. Anyone who witnessed the crash, or has dashcam or CCTV footage, should contact the police on 101 and quote incident 023 of 13 June.
