Foster Court in Blurton, an adult care home that supports those with learning and physical disabilities, is set to close due to funding issues.
This forces the home’s six current residents to find alternative housing within the next three months. Mencap, who currently run the care home, and Stoke-on-Trent City Council have apologised to the residents.
Councillor Duncan Walker stated that the authority is “incredibly sorry”.
The acting CEO of Mencap, Jackie O’Sullivan, described the planned closure had been a “last resort” and the home cost “significantly more to run than Mencap receives in funding from the local authority”.
Mencap recently handed the contract for the property back to the city council.
Both the council and Mencap will work with the six residents to find new accommodation.
