Burton Library, in Burton-on-Trent, will close from 1 July to allow work to begin on its £1.3 million revamp.
Work will primarily be carried out on the ground floor, which Staffordshire County Council has said will be turned into a “vibrant, multi-purpose, accessible and inclusive space”.
A new area for children and a mini theatre will be installed. The rest of the ground floor will be repurposed for more socialisation, learning, and creativity. Digital accessibility will also be improved.
While work is carried out, a temporary library will open in the venue’s former cafe. This temporary library will be open from 8 July.
Plans for the makeover were announced in April. FG Library & Learning will be tasked with creating new furniture.
£265,000 of the £1.3 million came from the Government’s Libraries Improvement Fund. The rest of the money came from Staffordshire County Council.
Similar revamp work has already been done to libraries in Lichfield, Codsall, Stafford, Tamworth, and Newcastle-under-Lyme.
