Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council has announced plans to transform a former office block into a ‘Homeless Hub’. This comes as part of the council’s aim to eradicate rough sleeping by 2025.
The new hub would feature 12 bedrooms, laundry facilities, and showers. Besides providing accommodation, the hub would also provide “drop-in support” for the homeless residents.
Staff would be present at the facility to offer 24/7 support. Staff members would also be trained to help residents overcome financial problems and find permanent accommodation.
The 600sqm building, which is located in Stubbs Gate, was recently acquired by the council.
Staffordshire residents can access more information regarding the proposed repurposing plans. The council are looking for as much feedback as possible from the public before proceeding.
“The plans are now open for consultation as part of the planning process and we would welcome people’s feedback,” stated Gillian Taylor, who is the acting service director for regulatory services.
