A Crowdfunder project has been launched to raise renovation funds for the Stockton Brook Waterworks, located on the Caldon Canal between Stoke-on-Trent and Leek.
The current owners have set a target of £4,500 which will go towards transforming the site into a ‘Community Centre for Art, Nature & Heritage’.
The pumping station has lain in disrepair since it was decommissioned in 1983 by Severn Trent Water.
The current owners, Mark Delf and Louise Adams, have owned the former pumping station since 2004. They formed a community interest company (CIC) in 2020 in order to start applying for funding to revive the site.
Currently, the project has five directors who will oversee the renovation work. Proposed plans include replacing the main doors, restructuring the entrance, fitting new windows, replacing the rear building roof, and installing CCTV.
Mark and Louise have already carried out some renovation work on the property – namely, replacing the roofing on the engine hall. This involved importing trees from Honduras and planting them in Sheffield. This was done to acquire quality pitch pine.
To help with the crowdfunding, the couple are set to host an open weekend at the former pumping house on 20 and 21 September.
