A man discharged a firearm and died shortly after on Friday (31 May) in what Staffordshire Police have described as a ‘tragic incident’.
The man, who is said to have been in his 50s, sustained serious injuries after firing a gun. Police responded to a report of a concern for welfare on Espleys Yard, Stafford town centre, at around 6.20pm.
Medical staff did all they could to help the man, however, he died as a result of his injuries.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the events leading up to the incident. The police are not treating the death as suspicious and are not currently looking for anyone in connection to the event. However, more police have been patrolling the area for investigative purposes.
The man’s next of kin have been informed.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family in what is a tragic incident. We remain in regular contact with them and will be providing specialist support.” stated Detective Inspector Louise Booker, who has been investigating the incident.
