Stoke-on-Trent City Council have announced how they will spend the city’s share of the government’s £400 million Levelling Up fund. This includes revitalising the Burslem Indoor Market and regenerating Chatterley Whitfield.
Last year, Stoke-on-Trent was selected to receive funding through the government’s ongoing town and city regeneration scheme. £20 million was allocated to the city to improve local areas.
This funding has now been approved, and the government and the council have agreed on how it will be spent.
£6.5 million will be spent on regenerating historic buildings throughout the city. Funding will also be allocated to restore and reopen the Burslem Indoor Market, which is Grade II listed and has been closed since 2003. Chatterley Whitfield will also receive restoration work.
£2.5 million has been set aside to improve recreational facilities. This includes a “wellbeing campus” that’s set to be built in Burslem.
Funding will be allocated to improve the town centres of Longton, Tunstall, and Stoke. This comes after it was announced that Stoke town centre was to receive a £500k green makeover.
