Stoke-on-Trent City Council is one of the 26 local authorities that have been granted access to the Defra grants aimed at curbing fly-tipping.
The council could receive up to £50,000 to spend on CCTV cameras, AI smart cameras, and other anti-fly tipping technology.
Money will also go towards campaigns to promote proper waste disposal.
“Fly-tipping is a brazen attack on communities, nature and our environment” stated Recycling Minister Robbie Moore.
The cap for fly-tipping fines was previously raised in January from £400 to £1,000. This came after it was reported that hundreds of fly-tipping fines had gone unpaid in 2023.
Money raised from this fine increase will go back into anti-waste dumping initiatives.
