Keele University offers voluntary redundancy to all employees

In a bid to cut costs, Keele University has invited 2,300 of the university’s staff to apply for voluntary redundancy.

This comes after the public research university near Newcastle-under-Lyme announced in 2023 that it needed to shed 100 jobs.

This need for a staff reduction has been blamed on frozen tuition fees, the volatile international recruitment market, and high inflation.

Keele has now opened a voluntary severance scheme which each of the 2,300 staff members can apply for.

Each redundancy applicant will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

A statement from the university read: “…we need to put ourselves in the best possible position for the future so that we can continue to deliver our charitable purpose of delivering education and research that makes the world a better place”.
