The Stoke High Street Accelerator (HSA) board have received £500k in government funding to bring flora and wildlife to Stoke’s town centre.

Based on the proposed plans, this money will be spent on creating floral meadows around the town and restoring the canal walkway. Town centre businesses will also be given grants to develop greener frontages. A wild playground for children has also been proposed.

The green makeover is hoped to make Stoke’s centre a more appealing place for shopping and visiting, especially for families. Entry points will be strategically targeted to increase the flow of foot traffic towards the centre of town.

Michael Escolme, the chair of the HSA, stated “As we know green space in Stoke town is limited. The approval of this funding is a positive step forward to helping to improve this.”

The HSA is set to host meetings with local businesses and community groups in June to discuss how to spend the funding.

Stoke town centre is one of ten locations targeted by the High Street Accelerators pilot program.
