As of Friday (May 3), £47,940 has been raised for Staffordshire farmer, Tim Parton, after a work injury left him paralysed.
A rehabilitation fundraiser was set up by colleague and friend, Michael Kavanagh, shortly after the incident.
Mr Parton, who manages Brewood Park Farm near the Staffordshire and Shropshire border, sustained injuries while cutting down a tree in March.
The incident left Mr Parton paralysed from the waist down. The farmer also had to get his left leg amputated from the knee down as a result.
Since the accident, which took place six-and-a-half weeks ago, Mr Parton has been recovering at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Despite the injuries sustained, Mr Parton remains positive that he will return to work as soon as he is able. He said there is “no point in moping” about his injury and that he is “just so humble” for the support he has received since. Injury rates in the agriculture industry at large remain high. According to the Health and Safety Executive, agriculture has a higher fatal injury rate than any other main industry sector.
