Staffordshire County Council have announced plans to invest in several country parks and the Staffordshire Way in the coming years.
Sites that are earmarked for development include Chasewater Country Park, Cannock Chase, Greenway Bank, Deep Hayes Country Park, and Apedale Community Country Park.
The proposed plans would also see improvements made to sections of the 92-mile Staffordshire Way.
Official plans are yet to be announced, but money is expected to be put into redeveloping visitor facilities, walkways, and picnic areas.
The Innovation Centre at Chasewater Country Park and visitor facilities at Cannock Chase have been specifically highlighted as areas that require improvement. The Staffordshire Way, which runs from Mow Cop to Kinver, will also be updated and relaunched.
It is hoped that improving and promoting Staffordshire’s green spaces will boost tourism.
There has already been an increase in visitors to Staffordshire’s parks in the years since the pandemic.
Victoria Wilson, the council’s cabinet member for Communities and Culture stated “In recent years there has been a rediscovery and renewed appreciation of our green spaces, which has seen more and more people using them.”
Wilson also suggested that the council will soon start asking residents, visitors, and businesses for suggestions on how to improve the county’s green spaces.
