Council chiefs in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle are calling for residents to air ideas for development plans over the next 20 years.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council launched their Joint Local Plan Issues Consultation to shape where new housing, roads and development will take place with the input of residents and businesses.

A new sixth form centre is to be built on the site of the old Ceramica building in Burslem after plans were passed by councillors.

The two-storey Haywood Academy building, which will accommodate up to 400 students and create ten classrooms, will be built next to Burslem town hall in Market Place.

City councillors voted for a “once in a lifetime chance” to bring the proposed HS2 rail network to Stoke-on-Trent.

They will now challenge the government’s current plans which are for Crewe to receive the planned hub station along the route linking Birmingham to Manchester with the Potteries missing out.

Buskers from around Stoke-on-Trent gathered in Hanley to perform live on stage to bring some “Musical Christmas” cheer to the city.

The festive event, organised by Stoke City Council along with two seasoned buskers, took place in Hanley town centre.
