Port Vale Port Vale line up before the match against Bury

Port Vale host Notts County at Vale Park on Saturday afternoon, and Neil Aspin’s side will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run to five games in all competitions.

Tom Pope scored the only goal of the game last weekend as Vale overcame Bury in Sky Bet League Two, with the result lifting the Valiants to 14th.

With just six points separating Vale and the play-off places, they will be determined to reduce the gap further with another positive result on home soil.

Port Vale Luke Joyce applauds the Vale supporters

Following the humbling 6-2 defeat to Lincoln City three weeks ago, Port Vale have responded by putting together a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Neil Aspin’s men ran out as winners against Middlesbrough U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy before picking up seven points from a possible nine in Sky Bet League Two.

With last weekend’s 1-0 home triumph over promotion-chasing Bury also marking a fourth consecutive clean sheet, midfielder Luke Joyce believes Vale can now push on.

Football Tom Pope gets a shot away during the defeat to MK Dons.

Port Vale’s goal scoring burden is usually carried by Tom Pope and he does have four goals to his name this season, but he wants to see more from the team.

As an experienced striker who reached a tally of 19 goals in Sky Bet League Two last season, Pope is keen to ensure that his teammates remain positive in their search for results.

Football Neil Aspin one year on

Thursday marked a year of Neil Aspin being at the helm as Port Vale manager, but it has not been plain sailing for the 53-year-old.

Having joined the club on the 4th October 2017 with Vale planted in the relegation places, he steered them to safety in Sky Bet League Two last season.
