Port Vale Football Club owner Norman Smurthwaite has revealed he has a “gentlemen’s agreement” with boss Micky Adams to stay in charge of the Valiants next season.

Speaking on BBC Radio Stoke, the outspoken chairman answered questions from fans calling, emailing or texting into the radio station as he looked to open communications between club and supporters.

Port Vale’s manager Micky Adams said his side will have to score more goals if they want to move to a play-off position, despite their current good form.

The Valiants have now scored 28 goals in their 19 league games this season but Adams said this is not enough.

Port Vale assistant manager Mark Grew has responded to early season detractors by praising the club’s current form.

The Valiants have now won five of their last seven League One games, including a fine away win over Walsall on Saturday
