Big-hearted students at The Cooperative Academy of Stoke-on-Trent hosted a Christmas lunch for more than 100 guests in a bid to tackle loneliness among the elderly at Christmas time.

Rogue traders, often referred to as ‘cowboys’, pose as builders, maintenance workers, gardeners and cold call residents, offering their services.


Figures have shown that 1.9 million people over the age of 65, often feel invisible and completely ignored. Also, 1.4 million feel cut off from society and 3.6 million admit the television is their only form of company, and the only thing that they interact with.
