43 new homes are to be built around one of Burslem’s most iconic landmarks. The Three Sisters bottle kilns, which date back to 1900, have recently been restored as part of a long-term housing development scheme.
Now that the restoration work is complete – and that Stoke-on-Trent city council has received a funding grant from Homes England – work can now begin on the 43 two and three-bedroom properties.
The houses are scheduled to be completed by summer 2025.
Once built, the Grade II listed kilns will initially be fenced off from the estate. However, it is hoped that the kilns and the area surrounding them will eventually be used for community purposes.
City councillor Chris Robinson stated: “Not only will they add to the overall look of the new housing estate but they will also serve as an example of our commitment to preserving our city’s heritage and safeguarding our historical assets.”
