The PDC World Darts Championship begins on Tuesday evening, the season finale of what has been a challenging year for the sport.
Defending champion Peter Wright is bidding to win back-to-back World titles. He takes on the winner of Steve West or Amit Giltwala in round 2.
Former World Champion Steve Beaton makes his 30th appearance in the tournament, breaking Phil Taylor’s record when he faces Brazil’s number one Diogo Portella. The winner of that match faces the three-time world champion Glen Durrant.
Our local players are in action later in the week with the 2012 finalist Andy Hamilton getting his campaign underway against the German Super League Champion Nico Kurtz. It’s the first time The Hammer will be at Alexandra Palace in 3 years.
Ian White and Adrian Lewis are both in action a week on Monday and Tuesday in second round action, with White taking on the winner of Kim Huybrechts and Di Zuhuang. Lewis, meanwhile, awaits either Damon Heta or Danny Baggish.
There will be fans this time at the darts since the last Premier League Darts meeting in Liverpool back in March. The PDC have been strict on what can’t be done. In a statement they have said “Football-style singing, and chanting will not be permitted”.
