Ian White and Adrian Lewis both have a sluggish start as Andy Hamilton pulls off a shock victory over Gary Anderson in the opening round of Day One.
Going into Day One of the Winter Series, out of the three Stokies appearing, you would’ve backed ‘The Diamond’ Ian White to do some damage to his opponents on the opening day. White is fresh off the back of knocking out world number one Michael Van Gerwen at the European Championships just two weeks ago and his form has been better than ever. However, White found out the tough way that anything can go when the format is first player to reach six legs, he fell 6-5 in his opener against Jermaine Wattimena.
Andy ‘Hammer’ Hamilton can’t boast being victorious over ‘The Green Machine’ Michael Van Gerwen as when they met at the European Darts Open, he narrowly lost 6-5 to the world number one. However, he has made it the furthest on Day One in the Winter Series out of the Stoke trio overcoming Gary Anderson, currently world number nine, 6-5 in the first round on the opening day. Hamilton faced off with fellow Englishman Luke Humphries in the second round and unfortunately fell narrowly in a 6-5 loss.
Adrian Lewis has been struggling to find his feet on the oche and that search proved still ongoing as he fell to defeat against Gabriel Clemens 6-5, ‘Jackpot’ did post a fine average of 96.9 but it didn’t prove dividend as he will have to regroup and looking to bounce back in Day Two, today.
