A 35-year-old man has been arrested after attacking a police inspector on the head with a bourbon whiskey bottle during an early morning bar burglary.
The man was caught burgling the Grail Court Hotel on Station Street, Burton, when he was confronted by officers at 3.40am this morning (October 4).
He then assaulted a police officer by hitting him over the head with a large whiskey bottle before being detained at the scene. Officers used a pepper spray equivalent – PAVA spray.

In a statement to StaffsLive Staffordshire Police confirmed the man had been arrested on suspicion of burglary, criminal damage and assaulting a police officer and remains in custody.
The Staffordshire Police Response unit took to Twitter in a lighthearted post writing: “Our Shift 3 Burton Response Inspector confronted a burglar inside a pub at 0430hrs and was struck on the head with this bottle.
“Fortunately he has a hard head and is a good aim with incapacitant spray, so moments later the offender was on the ground in cuffs.”
