The conservative MP Jack Brereton has backed PM Theresa May’s leadership, following recent cabinet resignations.
May’s announcement of the draft withdrawal bill has led to a slew of resignations, most notably Brexit Minister Dominic Raab.
Jacob Rees Mogg handed in a letter of no confidence on the PM, sparking talk of a leadership election.
Jack Brereton MP said: I think it would be insane to change the leadership at this time.
“I think whoever the Prime Minister would face the exact same challenges, so I think we should just get on with delivering Brexit.”
Since the recent challenge to May’s government, several leading Brexiteer’s have supported May, including Michael Gove.
70% of Stoke-on-Trent South voted to leave the European Union in the 2016 referendum.
Mr Brereton added: “I’m absolutely committed to making sure that we deliver what those people voted for in the referendum”.
