Man jailed for historic kidnap sentenced for making indecent images of children

A man was sentenced yesterday (9 November) at Warwick Crown Court for making thousands of indecent images of children.

74-year-old, Arnold David Baxter, was also arrested last year for the abduction and sexual assault of a six-year-old girl near Burton-upon-Trent in March 2001.

Officers seized multiple media storage devices, during the arrest at his home last year.

Over 6,500 images were found during a forensic examination of the devices.

Detective Inspector Victoria Downing, of Staffordshire Police’s Major and Organised Crime Department, said: “Baxter’s crime left the local community, and the victim’s parents, in a complete state of shock.

“We are glad he’s now been sentenced and remains in prison for an extended period.”

In August, at Leamington Magistrates Court, Baxter pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent and pseudo images of children.

In addition to the nine-year sentence he is currently serving, Baxter has been sentenced to a further 12 months for the possession of category A images, 4 months for category B images and 3 months for category C images.

These sentences will be served concurrently.

Baxter is now also the subject of a sexual prevention order and a destruction order was issued for his equipment.
