Kidsgrove Athletic have announced a Student Day in an attempt to boost dwindling ticket sales.
The day will take place on Saturday 17th November when Kidsgrove welcome Prescot Cables to the Novus Stadium and is being promoted to Staffordshire University students.
The club are laying on free minibuses from Staffordshire University and are offering special drink offers to students who show their University identification.
In a statement club vice Chairman Ian Cooper said: “Like many other small clubs we’re fighting for fans and as part of that we came up with the idea of a student day to encourage Staffordshire University students to come down and see what we’ve got on offer.
“We’re going to take our club’s minibus down to the Uni, students can come in for a fiver, we will do discounted beer offers for them and then we’ll drop them back off after the game.”
Cooper also announced that the club could bring back Student Days in future depending on the success of the scheme and is also looking at other special offers to get fans through the turnstiles on matchday saying: “We are always looking for new ideas to get attendances up.
“Our matchday breakfast offer started at the beginning of the season and that is slowly starting to pick up round the local area.
“But we really want to get that next generation of Grove supporters on board and just bring in any new fans to see our team.”
Manager Ryan Austin hopes that the initiative can give his team some much needed support for his side’s promotion push saying: “I think the redevelopments are going to get fans through the door in the long run, but we also need to look at the short-term.
“The lads are playing fantastically on the pitch and we want to share that success with our fans particularly if we want to be in the running for promotion this season.”
