What to do this summer in Staffordshire

Summer is fast approaching and there are lots of things to do in Staffordshire that you might not have even considered. Whether that’s somewhere to visit with the kids, or something to do as adults.

If you’re looking for something that is a little different than places such as Waterworld or Alton Towers, then take a look at our ideas on what to do in the nice weather.

Twycross Zoo

Twycross is a brilliant zoo which is just off the M42 and has something for everyone. With several walkthrough animal exhibits, including lemurs and butterflies, there is also a new chimpanzee enclosure which is opening soon. It costs £17.22 for an adult ticket, and £12.90 for a child’s ticket.

Tamworth Castle

Here you can go on a guided tour and learn all about the bloody battles and ghost stories from the castle’s rich history. If you’re brave enough, they even sometimes hold ghost searches in the centuries old castle. It costs £7.50 for an adult ticket and £5 for a child’s ticket.

Trentham Monkey Forest

This is the ideal place to go over the summer and the children will love it! Monkey’s will run free all over the lands of Trentham and it includes some beautiful walks through the forests. Why not see how many monkey’s you can spot? It’s an absolute bargain too as it only costs £8.50 for adults and £6.50 for children.

Explore the 120 acres of woodlands at Conkers, Moira, in Derbyshire. With gorgeous lakes, ponds and play areas for the kids, it has something for everyone. If you want a little more excitement, then you can try the 18 stage activity trail or the vertigo adventure with high ropes and zip wires.

Escape Room

Find an escape room near to you as they are so much fun and great for a family day out. The name of the game is that you are locked into a room and you have to find a way to get out using clues and objects around the room. If you’re looking for something that will enable you to use your brain, then this is the place for you.Escape room

Beat the summer heat by partaking in some extreme winter sports instead. Tamworth’s SnowDome has ice skating, snowboarding, tobogganing and so many other sports for you to try. Is there a better way to get out of the sun by launching yourself into the snow?

Go Ape

Cannock has a great treetop exploration track with rope crossing and zip wires of up to 14m high. This is the perfect place for adrenaline junkies, but maybe not those of you who are afraid of heights. If that’s the case, then you can also ride on a segway through the forests of Cannock Chase. There is also a Go Ape in Sherwood Forest, for people on the edge of Staffordshire. It costs

Steam Railways

Churnet Valley Railway in Stoke provides a vintage train experience with four different stations that you can get off in and explore. If you are willing to go the extra distance there is also the Severn Valley Railway from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster. This is also a great idea for kids as they will love the experience of travelling on a train.
