Review: Ariana Grande’s No Tears Left To Cry

Ariana Grande has released new single No Tears Left To Cry today, her first major release since the Manchester bombing at her concert in May last year.

The young artist has definitely come back well with a strong message of picking yourself back up. Through the medium of a love song, Grande spreads positivity about being able to get back up when you go through hard times. “Ain’t got no tears in my body/I ran out, but boy, I like it”, the song refers to how much time the popstar has spent upset but suggests that now she can carry on and grow having finally run out of tears. It carries a great message for her young fans as they can see their idol come back well from one of the darkest moments of her life, showing that they can do it to.

Unfortunately, the track has a few let downs in terms of its production. The beat starts off as very basic and a little bit boring, it definitely does not draw you into wanting to listen to the song. Had I not known it was Ariana I wouldn’t have bothered listening. As usual I found Grande mumbled through some aspects of the lyrics making them difficult to understand and harder to connect with as a listener. Enunciation is actually a reoccurring issue in Grande’s music especially in her more upbeat music. This isn’t helped by the music as it overpowers Ariana’s vocal like a bad concert soundcheck.

The video has also been released on Youtube today, a beautifully artistic if not slightly trippy video that has Grande in gorgeous outfits in various spinning landscapes. It also has a nice salute to Manchester with a bee flying off screen at the end of the video.

Overall the song is definitely worth a listen and will most likely make its way into the charts in the near future.
